See Luke Combs Perform New Drinking Song 'One Too Many'

Luke Combs mixes two of his favorite things — Nineties country and drinking beer — into a new song, “One Too Many.” The North Carolina hitmaker has been testing out the upbeat sing-along on his current Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour, including at his show at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado, on Sunday night.

“This is my Nineties country drinking song,” he says by way of introduction. Evoking Brooks & Dunn’s “Brand New Man,” “One Too Many” is Combs’ admitting that he doesn’t have an off switch when it comes to nights out with friends, including his guitarist Rob Williford, whom he namechecks in the first verse. “I ain’t the kind to let a buddy drink alone, but I can’t turn it off once I turn it on,” Combs sings, setting up a chorus in which he counts off how many is too many.

The rollicking drinking tune, written by Combs with Tyler King, Drew Parker, and Dan Isbell, is the latest taste of his new music — or at least of tracks that didn’t appear on his double-platinum This One’s for You and its deluxe reissue. Last week, the singer released the new single “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” which he first debuted in January 2018, and its accompanying video. He and his band, who also performed the song on The Tonight Show, are set to appear on the main stage at Nissan Stadium during June’s CMA Fest in Nashville.
