A new generation of Pokemon games always comes with a new gimmick that changes the way Pokemon battle. In past titles, we’ve seen things like Mega Evolutions, Z-moves, Dynamax, but Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are introducing the Terastal phenomenon. But what is Terastallizing and what are all the Tera Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet? Let’s take a look at everything we know about it.

Terastallizing in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Explained

While some phenomena are shared through multiple generations, like Mega Evolutions, others are exclusive to the region, such as Dynamaxing in the Galar region in Pokemon Sword and Shield. The Paldea region has an exclusive phenomenon that makes pokemon shine and glimmer like gems known as Terastallizing.

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Terastallizing will give your extra pokemon power by boosting their type and making their moves stronger. Pokemon can have different Tera types that allow them to change their type after terrastalizing. One example The Pokemon Company provided was that Eevee typically stays normal type, but you can find Eevee that will change to water or grass type. So be on the lookout for Pokemon with rare Tera types.

You will be more likely to find Pokemon with rare Tera types in Tera Raid Battles. Up to four players can join these Tera Raid Battles and attack and heal without waiting for their allies to make their moves. After cooperating with your team to defeat the Tera Pokemon, you can catch it for yourself.

The most important things to know about Terastallizing are that it can be used in battle to give your Pokemon a special boost, and there are rare Tera types to catch. After Pokemon Terastallize, they also get some pretty neat hats. That is very important.

All Tera Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

As mentioned above, Terastallizing is unique to the Paldea region; however, it is not unique to specific Pokemon. All Pokemon in the Paldea region have the ability to Terastallize using a Tera Orb, so it won’t be something that is difficult to do when you finally start playing the game. That said, some Tera Pokemon will feature a rare Tera type making them more desirable to find and catch.

Thus far, we have gotten confirmation that several Pokemon, such as Eevee, Gardevoir, Dragonite, and Pikachu, will feature some rare Tera types. In fact, a special Pikachu will be available as an early purchase bonus, and it will have a flying Tera type and know the move Fly.

We currently do not know if every Pokemon can be found in every single type as a Tera form. For example, there are currently 18 possible types in Pokemon, we do not know if there is a unique Tera type for every single pokemon for all 18 types. For now, we do know that every Pokemon you catch will Terastallize when using a Tera Orb.
