The GX12 thermal pipe is an item that Shepard must find as a side quest at the request of Chief Engineer Adams. You can find him on the engineering deck most of the time in the game, though he does occupy the crew quarters anytime after the events of Priority: Sur’Kesh.

If you chat with him after Priority: Palaven, Adams will ask you to find a GX12 thermal pipe to help make the Normandy’s engines safer. It is also important to note that this conversation actually won’t be available unless Shepard has completed two missions that involve landing on a world.

Mass Effect 3 GX12 Thermal Pipe

There are two ways to get your hands on a GX12 thermal pipe in Mass Effect 3.

The first is accomplished by going to the Citadel and visiting the Elkoss Combine Arsenal Supplies kiosk located at the Bank in the Presidium Commons. Here, you’ll find the item for sale, though it’ll be called the E-Gel Thermal Conduit. It can be purchased for 1,000 credits.

If you’ve already visited this shop before, you can also go to the Normandy’s Shuttle Bay and access the Alliance Requisitions terminal. Keep in mind that purchasing the GX12 thermal pipe this way will mark it up by 10% due to the convenience.

Talk to Adams and he’ll let you know that he needs time to install it. After visiting him again a bit down the line, he’ll reward you with 5 Reputation and 375 experience. You’ll also get schematics for Optimized Eezo Capacitors that are worth 15 Total Military Strength if Abby and Kenneth were pardoned.
